PowerPoint macro buttons

More and more clients have been asking for help to streamline the creation of new PowerPoint presentations. Below are examples of some of the solutions we have developed in our templates using macros:

  1. New presentation
  2. Insert New slide
  3. Create tombstone slide
  4. New bar chart slide

1. Create new presentation

Unlike Word it is not possible to attach a toolbar to individual PowerPoint templates. Instead you need to build a global toolbar that  is continuously available in PowerPoint, irrespective of the presentation being worked on.

Below is an example toolbar (for PowerPoint 2003) with the capability to build a new presentation:

Clicking on the New Presentation button will launch this dialog box with the ability to select the required slides from a list.

On pressing the Create Presentation button a new presentation with all the required slides will be generated.

If additional slides are required the user can use the Insert New Slide button to select the required slide type from the list. See below.

2. Insert New Slide

This button allows users to insert additional slides into an existing presentation. These could be blank slides for the user to populate themselves or pre-filled corporate information slides.

Pressing the Insert New Slide button will launch a dialog box similar to the one displayed below:

The user can select the slide or slides they require to be inserted into their presentation. On pressing the Add slide(s) button the slides will be inserted at the current location in the presentation.

3. Create tombstone slide

A number of clients frequently create 'tombstone' slides to list current clients and jobs/deals that are relevant to the new client they are presenting to. These slides are tedious to create and frequently need updating to current and relevant clients.

We have created a number of automated systems that allow users to select the exact client list from a database and quickly create a new tombstone slide with a single click of a button.

Below is an example of a dialog box that is used to select the client case studies list for generating the new tombstone.

On pressing the Create slide button a new slide is generated. All the selected deal information and client logo is inserted into the tombstones
