Business Leadership Summit September 2016

Thank you to everyone who joined our roundtable at the Business Leadership Summit run by the Lawyer last week. We were discussing the role of documentation in marketing and branding. A lot of the interest focused on more visual business development documentation and how they reflected the firm’s values. But there was a recognition that the less glamourous legal documents needed to be accurate, well ordered and consistently presented to build the firm’s reputation in the marketplace. Participants raised a number of points including re-using existing documents and ensuring the branding and reference text (eg registered office)is up to date; the challenges of controlling presentation of a single document type generated from multiple systems.

Finally we would reinforce the importance of this topic by noting one of the findings of ALM Legal Intelligence in a 2013 report:

‘51% of corporate legal departments have terminated a law firm due to sub-par document quality or delivery’
